The Eastern Seaboard Journey
The journey north begins on Sydney’s motorways before joining the Pacific Highway. Expect heavy traffic through the Central Coast and Newcastle, especially during holiday periods. Beyond Port Macquarie, the highway alternates between motorway and single‑lane sections, with occasional roadworks around Macksville and Grafton. Our drivers plan fuel stops at major service centres like Hexham, Coffs Harbour and Ballina. Approaching Brisbane, we transition to the Bruce Highway, where we often bypass central Brisbane using inner‑city bypass roads to avoid congestion.
Queensland’s Bruce Highway has been subject to upgrades and flood mitigation projects. In the wet season, certain sections near Rockhampton and Ingham can flood, causing detours. We monitor these conditions and may adjust travel dates during severe weather. North of Townsville, the road narrows in places and winds through rainforest and coastal ranges. Wildlife crossings and tourist traffic require reduced speeds and caution. As we near Cairns, steep climbs through the Macalister Range and heavy rainfall demand experienced drivers who can manage large vehicles on challenging terrain. Upon arrival, we must secure permits for loading zones in busy areas like Cairns City and coordinate with building managers for access.
